Oil washes always dry a shade too glossy for realism matte-finish military and monster paint jobs want flat, not satin. Abteilung 502’s Matt Effect Thinner (ABT112) fixes that at the mixing stage: an ultra-smooth thinner with a matting agent built straight into the formula, so every wash, filter and oil effect you lay down dries dead flat without a separate varnish step.

Best for

  • Matte washes and filters over flat military vehicles and monster paintwork
  • Any oil technique where a true flat finish is the whole point
  • Mixing into any oil or enamel paint already on your bench

One thing worth knowing: the matting agent can settle out as visible flecks in the tin between uses. A good shake brings it straight back into suspension no need to bin it.

Flat finishes without the varnish gymnastics. Browse more oils and mediums in our oil paint line-up, or grab an Abteilung 502 brush built for fine wash work.
